My First Encounter With Flower Remedies

Four Bach flower remedy bottles with dropper caps, labeled Cerato, Cherry Plum, Chestnut Bud, Chicory, set against a plain background.

I’d like to share with you my first encounter with the flower remedies.

I was in my early twenties, in London, training to be an occupational therapist, when I first became aware of the Bach Flower Remedies. They were available in chemists and wholefood shops and I was initially drawn to the look of them and the way they were displayed. All 38 of them lined up with lovely line drawings of each flower on the label.

Like a lot of people, the first remedy I used was the Rescue Remedy. During my training there were lots of situations when I needed the Rescue Remedy such as giving a presentation, sitting exams, giving a report in multi-disciplinary team meetings, starting a new placement, travelling an unfamiliar route to placements and patient’s homes…all hugely stressful activities for somebody with Sensory Perception Sensitivity.

Being able to carry a small bottle in my pocket or bag which I could rely on to release the butterflies in my stomach, to help me think clearly and calmly whenever I needed was very comforting and reassuring and it worked every time.

To this day, I still carry a bottle of Rescue Remedy in my pocket or bag whenever I leave the house!

Rescue Remedy is for when you are feeling anxious, fearful, confused, tense, or agitated due to stressful situations, emergencies like sudden bad news or an accident and also anytime you feel you need rescuing.
